How does CFT work?

Curated Family Therapeutics specializes in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. The clinicians you are paired with are experts in breaking down your daily actions, words, and thoughts to create focused objectives that help to achieve goals and overcome the obstacles along the way.

Upon an initial assessment, you will be paired with a licensed Behavior Analyst, whose expertise will help you define your life goals and create action plans, with daily and/or weekly objectives. These action plans will serve as your guide to creating long-lasting growth for yourself and/or loved ones.  We aim to make these actions plans completely tailored to your daily life – taking into account all aspects of what makes you…you (values, family, work, school, learning history, etc…). At CFT, we measure success in 3-month increments, creating consistent and steady progress towards long lasting health.

What makes us different?

Curated

·      Each action plan and weekly objective is specific to your values, daily schedule, needs, long-term goals, and previous history of success. We aim to work WITH you diagnostic traits, rather than change who you are.

 Visible Progress

·      Every week you will take a mental health score and measure your progress towards your goals which will be reviewed as a visual graph, and used to celebrate your success each month.

Action Plan

·      While we take from many aspects of traditional talk therapy, our action plans focus on your daily behaviors (actions, words, and thoughts) outside of 1-1 sessions. Within each action plan, we meet you where you are at, starting slow, building upon each success with new challenges each week.

 Diverse

·      At CFT, our team has 25 years of experience working with all members of the neurodivergent community (children, teens, adults, parents, siblings, teachers). While the science we utilize can help to create success for anyone, our therapeutic history with populations who differ in various levels of independence, (with their mental and physical health), offers insights that not every therapeutic practice can provide.

 Accountability

·      Within each action plan we focus on developing the needed skills to hold each individual accountable. Additionally, we also have “accountability check in’s” via text, email, or phone call to ensure you’re working towards your goals in between in person sessions.

 Self-Management

·      While we love to support our clients at CFT, nothing makes us more satisfied than to see clients develop the needed skills and no longer need our service. You’re welcome to our service for as long as you’d like, but our goal is to always encourage self-dependence.

How do you measure success?

Success is measured by the initial goals set by both the CFT team and client. Each long term goal will be broken down into weekly objectives. In addition to meeting goals, clients will also rate their mental health and give themselves a “Wellness Score” on a daily or weekly basis. Our goal is not for clients “Wellness Score” to be at 10/10 every week. Success is achieved when clients are able to maintain scores of 7 to 8 on average, even during the most challenging days or weeks.

What if I don’t have a diagnosis or if I’m self-diagnosed?

We love to work with ALL clients! While most of our clients are neurodiverse and have a diagnosis, we are proud to support those who are self-diagnosed OR those that are neurotypical. Before we agree to begin a therapeutic relationship, we offer a free consultation to determine if the provider and client are a strong clinical match. If for some reason we are not suited to support you, we are more than happy to refer you to another provider.

What does neuroaffirming mean and how does it work with CFT?

Great question! At CFT, neuroaffirming means that being neurodiverse is a celebrated and valued form of human diversity. Science tells us that there isn’t one “wrong”, “right”, or “normal” neurocognition; rather, each brain is different — neurotypical, neurodivergent or otherwise. While it is a more modern construct, neurodiversity is reflective of any other sociological diversity throughout human history.

Here is how we keep our therapeutic practice neuroaffirming:

  • Values Assessment — custom assessment based on what neurodiverse clients value and who they want to be, not based on any neurotypical norms.

  • We, as clinicians, listen, believe, and validate our clients neurodiverse experiences.

  • We spend time actively researching and developing curated plans of support based on a clients values and neurodivergent culture.

  • We celebrate unique interests and qualities of our neurodiverse clients.

  • We empower clients with education and knowledge of relevant neurodivergent topics.

  • We collaborate with the neurodivergent community by partnering with neurodivergent adults, clinicians, and leaders in neurodivergent academia.

Why Telehealth?

While we don’t exclusively see clients on Telehealth, it is the preferred option for most because telehealth allows for flexibility of scheduling and for us to meet our clients where they are most comfortable. You want to have session while you prep dinner? SURE! You want to have session from your bedroom? SURE! You want to have sessions from you car? SURE! Wherever you find a quiet space that allows to be open to addressing the challenges you face and become the best version of yourself, we want to have sessions there!

How much does each session cost?

Prices of session vary based on the individual client needs, goals, and household income. All services include an initial free consultation, in which we discuss more about our service and determine the appropriate pricing.

(Not applicable for insurance clients. Payment frequency dependent on initial assessment and consultation)

Do you accept insurance?

Currently, we only accept the insurances listed below for those who have an autism diagnosis (or other neurodivergent diagnosis). If your provider is not listed, we recommend that you consult with your provider and ask about re-imbursement/superbill.

  • Anthem Commercial

  • Anthem Medical

  • MHN / Healthnet- Medical

  • MHN / Healthnet -Commercial

  • Self-Determination Funding (California Regional Centers)

How long does your service usually last?

At CFT, we individualize our action plans in collaboration with the clients we work with. Each success story varies based on the needs and wants of each individual. At a minimum, each service requires a 6-month action plan. While some people may feel they no longer need our service after 6 months, others may need to continue for a few years or longer.

Am I allowed to cancel my service once I start, even if I don’t meet my goals?

While we don’t anticipate you will want to cancel after seeing the progress you’ll make, we understand that our service is not for everyone. You are allowed to cancel your service at anytime. If we feel like you still necessitate support, we are happy to refer you other trusted providers.

Why do I sign a contract?

After your initial consultation, an agreed-upon price point, session dates, and additional details of the process will be set. Therapeutic service agreements are intended to make sure both parties (provider and client) remain safe and aware parameters and expectations of a therapeutic relationship.

How do I pay?

We offer a variety of payment methods dependent on your agreed-upon service. Clients may choose to pay in weekly or monthly installments.

·      All major credit/debit cards
